Isle of Wight Arts Open Studios 2014
The Island’s artistic talent will be on display over this period, as Isle of Wight artists invite visitors into their studios or demonstrate their work in public venues across the Island. You can enjoy art of all kinds, watch artists at work and talk to them about their styles and influences – and admission is free.
This year there are 130 exhibitors, including over 25 new artists. The range includes sculptors, a wood-turner, photographers, artists who create puppets and models; painters in abstract and realistic styles; potters and ceramicists; mixed-media artists; driftwood and fabric art. Established favourites include Charlotte Hodge Thomas, Jo Hummel-Newell, Becky Samuelson, Lisa Traxler, Maria Ward and Tony Westmore.
Travel from Portsmouth or Southsea to join art trails in the Ryde, Bembridge, Sandown/Shanklin and Ventnor areas. Ryde includes diverse groups at The Depozitory, Ryde School and nearby Quarr Abbey, as well as a strong contingent of artists in their own studios. A trip on the No 8 bus from Ryde seafront takes you to St Helens and Bembridge, and onward to Sandown, for a total of 23 artists showing painting, textiles, coastal craft, quilting and ceramics. For the Ventnor trail use bus 3 from Ryde, for a variety of painting styles, ‘60s-influenced acrylics and vibrant knitwear....
