Festival of Speed 2013

July 12, 2013
All Towns

Lord March recently announced the themes and highlights for this year's Festival of Speed. The 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed will celebrate the best of the first 20 years of this, the world’s most popular motor sport and car culture event.

This summer’s Festival of Speed will focus on highlights from the event’s glittering history. The biggest, best, fastest, loudest and most outrageous vehicles of all time will be invited back to West Sussex in July for a weekend not to be missed. Star cars and motorcycles, plus drivers and riders from each of the world’s major motor sport disciplines, past and present, will be featured at Goodwood, including champions from Formula 1, Indycar, the World Rally Championship, Superbikes, NASCAR, World Sports Cars and Touring Cars.

Goodwood plans to recapture many of the outstanding Festival of Speed moments from the 1993-2012 era, whether that’s great cars from the USA and elsewhere or famous car / driver pairings making a return to the event for a fitting birthday party for the world’s greatest celebration of motor sport history and car culture.

Goodwood Festival of Speed founder, Lord March commented: “I really can’t believe that we’ve been staging the Festival of Speed for 20 years already; the time has simply flown by!”

BHF Charity Sea Swim

July 14, 2013

Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) today announce that due to popular demand 1,200 more places are to become available for the biggest charity sea swim event in Europe, after over 1,000 swimmers have already signed up.

The Olympian - who is also a two-time World 10km Open Water Champion - has lent her support to the BHF’s Bournemouth Pier to Pier charity sea swim which will see swimmers swim 1.4 miles of the English Channel from Bournemouth to Boscombe Pier on Sunday 14 July.

Now in its 23rd year, the charity swim raised over £100,000 for the BHF in 2012 funding essential research into the UK’s single biggest killer, coronary heart disease, which claims almost 80,000 lives a year.

Keri-Anne comments: “I’m pleased to announce that 1200 more places are now available for the biggest charity sea swim in Europe. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer - I didn’t realise that and I’m sure I’m not alone. Whilst research has come a long way, so many people still need help. “Swimming is a great way to have fun and get fit and healthy at the same time and you’ll be raising money for a great cause too – so zip up your wetsuit, dive on in and join the BHF in their fight for every heartbeat.”

BHF Event Organiser, Andy Coles, added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be announcing the biggest year yet of the Bournemouth Pier to Pier sea swim. So many people have already signed up to this unique event, so we’d like to urge people to get involved quickly if they don’t want to miss out on a place. To mark the announcement sand artist, Andy Coutanche, created a 200ft sand drawing in the sands of Bournemouth Beach. The drawing, depicting a swimmer catching his breath on the front crawl stroke, took four hours to create and was crafted using the artist’s great grandfather’s rake.
